Seeing (a) Red (Progress Bar)

We’ve all been there. Waiting at traffic-lights. In a hurry to get somewhere fast. Waiting. Waiting. Still waiting.

Damjan Stankovic has recently been honoured by the Red Dot design awards for his traffic light redux that makes use of a round progress bar.

Damjan Stankovic’s design is much like any other stop light except for one crucial difference – it incorporates a progress bar so you can work out how long you’ll have to wait. It hasn’t yet been commissioned in the UK, but similar versions are already operational in other parts of the world, including Thailand and Brazil.

The Guardian’s Jonny Dee describes progress bars as “the very essence of functionality”. I agree.
